We're currently accepting applications for the following positions.
Poetry Editor
The deadline to apply for this position is February 1, 2017.
Territory is currently looking for a Poetry Editor to join our team. We want someone with a strong understanding of the current poetry and literary magazine landscape and who reads and appreciates a wide range of styles, but also someone who wants to create something strange and new.
Responsibilities
There are a few core responsibilities to the position:
- Soliciting and editing 5-10 contributions per issue (released every season)
- Reading and responding to general submissions (workload dependent on volume)
- Running a monthly meeting to discuss poetry solicitations and submissions
There's also a lot of room to expand these responsibilities to...
- conceiving and managing contests, inserts, and other special features
- organizing readings and other events
- writing short pieces for our blog, which is currently in the planning phase. These could be or be about:
- Personal or critical essays on poetry, poetics, maps, and combinations therein
- Reviews
- Interviews
- Surveys of poetry/writing scenes in specific cities, regions, states, etc.

Commitment
We want someone who can commit for at least two years (8 issues) for about 4-6 hours a week. Depending on how quickly Territory grows, we can put out this call again for additional editors.
Keep in mind we're just two writers running this project in our spare time and out of pocket. We would love to be able to compensate people for their time and valuable work but are unable to do so at the moment.

- No more than 500 words on why you’re interested working with us and your vision for the position. This should be both philosophical and logistical.
- 5-7 poems (at least 3 published) that represent a broad range of your work and/or provide context for your editorial vision
- 5 poets you would consider soliciting for the journal and a brief rationale
- A resume including your educational, professional, and editorial experience

Fiction Editor
Territory is currently looking for a Fiction Editor to join our team. We want someone with a strong understanding of the current short fiction and literary magazine landscape and who reads and appreciates a wide range of styles, but also someone who wants to create something strange and new.
Responsibilities
There are a few core responsibilities to the position:
- Soliciting and editing 5-7 contributions per issue (released every season)
- Reading and responding to general submissions (workload dependent on volume)
- Running a monthly meeting to discuss fiction solicitations, submissions, and other projects you want to take on
Commitment
We want someone who can commit for at least two years (8 issues) for about 3-6 hours a week. Depending on how quickly Territory grows, we can put out this call again for additional editors.
Keep in mind we're just two writers running this project in our spare time and out of pocket. We would love to be able to compensate people for their time and valuable work but are unable to do so at the moment.

Web Designer
Territory is currently looking for a Web Designer to join our team. We want someone with a strong understanding of digital publishing design, facility (if not expertise) with design language (HTML/CSS/Javascript) and design software (Photoshop/Illustrator), and an appreciation of literature and literary magazines.
We’re looking for someone who wants to join the team as a masthead editor, but are also interested in working with designers who can only contribute on an issue-to-issue basis or for one-off projects. Jobs we’re willing to parcel out are flagged with an asterisk (*).
Recurring Responsibilities
For each issue, design and code...
- a visual grammar and reading experience that resonates with that issue’s theme, number of pieces, types of pieces, etc.
- a splash page and corresponding legend page that works in parallel with the aesthetic of the issue. *
- piece-specific layouts. This will involve working directly with the work’s creator. *
- optimize images hosted on server/CDN to utilize minimal bandwidth.
One-Off Projects
- Migrate our custom Google maps to Mapbox *
- Create system for testing cross-browser compatibility (e.g. Python script with Selenium) *
- Build system for properly citing texts *
- Conduct SEO for general and scholar search *
We also invite you to propose projects, either recurring or one-off.
Commitment
For the masthead position we ask for at least a two year commitment (8 issues), which will require an average of 2-10 hours a week with swells leading up to launch and breaks after launch. One-off projects will each have their own timelines and commitments.

The masthead position will remain open until filled.. One-off projects will be added and removed from this list continually.
